Phacelia californica is a grand wild thing. One of the 6 I planted turned into a 8' wide by 3' tall mound that was constantly buzzing with bees. The prehistoric flowers are really interesting. This plant completely dies back in the winter. Don't touch, for it has nettle-like burning hairs. It seems to readily (perhaps too readily) reseed, even in mulch, so we'll see if it becomes a problem. This picture was taken on 3/5/08.
